MILLBURY - Henry E. Croteau, 72, of 6 Railroad Ave., died Friday, Feb. 28, in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Memorial Campus, Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 48 years, Diane M. (Gautreau) Croteau; three daughters, Denise A. Lacour of Whitinsville, Deborah A. Anderson of Worcester and Cheryl E. Mercure of Millbury; a sister, Ileine Burke of West Boylston; ten grandchildren; three great-grandsons; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Edward J. and Elizabeth (Rockwood) Croteau and lived in Sutton before moving to Millbury in 1977. He graduated from the former Commerce High School in Worcester.
Mr. Croteau was a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy where he served on active for 23 years, retiring in 1982. He also served for ten years in the Naval Reserve. He was also a Deputy Sheriff in Worcester.
He was a member of St. BrigidTM)s Church and a former member of St. Marks Church in Sutton. He and his wife were among the founders of the St. Marks Church Mens and Womens Club. He was a life member of the Dudley Gendron American Legion Post and a former Historian of the post, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #4 in Worcester. a member of the Sutton Lions Club, a member of the Singletary Rod & Gun Club in Oxford, the Millbury Golden Age Club and a member of the former Franco-American Club.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, March 5, from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., (

) with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Brigids Church, 59 Main St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, in the funeral home.
