Irene G. (Mongeon) Donnelly, 80, died suddenly Thursday, Dec. 24th. Her husband of 60 years, John S. Donnelly, Jr. died earlier this year in April.
She leaves behind her four children, John S. Donnelly, III and his partner, Ben Grehan of Florida, Donna M. Flaminio and her husband, Frank of Worcester, Kathleen A. McAuliffe and her husband, Sean of Maryland and Thomas P. Donnelly and his wife, Katherine of Millbury; her seven grandchildren, Frank, Kevin, Erin, Ashley, Anna, John and Emily; a sister Jeanette Linder of Millbury, two brothers Emil Mongeon of Tennessee and Roland Mongeon of Missouri, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Leona (Morrisette) Mongeon as well as two brothers, Frederick and George, and two sisters Patricia and Lena.
Irene grew up in Manchaug and attended Sutton schools where she played basketball in her early years. After her marriage to John, the two settled in Millbury where she worked at Millbury Credit Union for over 25 years and was a member of the Millbury Women's Club. As a longtime member of Whitinsville Country Club, she was an avid golfer and card player. She also especially enjoyed spending time at her pool with family and friends.
Irene's calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 30th from 5 to 8 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main Street in Millbury.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, Dec. 31st with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 Main Street in Millbury. Burial will follow in St. Brigid Cemetery in Millbury. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Millbury Seniors, One River Street, Millbury, MA 01527.
