MILLBURY/FORT PIERCE, FL - Iver Oscar William Jernstrom, 85, of Fort Pierce, FL, formerly of Millbury, died early Sunday, January 8, 2012 in Northwest Medical Center, Margate, Florida.

Iver's first wife Shirley Theresa Dunn died in 1974 and his 2nd wife, and Gladys A. Griffith died in 2003. He leaves a son, Scott W. Jernstrom and his wife Shari of Parkland, Florida, two daughters Kim E. Covell and her husband Timothy of Eastham, MA, Laurie A. Baroni and her husband Raymond of Millbury, MA; eight grandchildren, Erin Cronen and her husband David, Benjamin Covell, Jana, Jonathan & Matthew Jernstrom, Alexa, Ryan and Olivia Baroni; two great grandchildren Max and Elizabeth Cronen. He was born in Worcester, MA and is predeceased by his parents Gustaf and Signe (Johnson) Jernstrom, his brother, Julius Jernstrom and survived by his sister-in-law Vangeline Jernstrom and nephews David, Donald and Dean Jernstrom.

He enlisted in the Army Air Forces on January 27, 1945 in which he served eight months in the American Theater where he trained and served as a radio operator aboard B-17's. Following the conclusion of WWII, he was assigned to the 91st Reconnaissance Squadron Long Range Photography aboard retrofit B-17's to chart Brazil. He received an honorable discharge at the rank of corporal, October 1, 1946. He later received an honorable discharge from the Air Force Reserves on March 4, 1954.

He retired in 1987 from National Grid (formerly New England Power Co.) where he had been employed since 1956. Following his retirement, he moved to Cape Cod and later to Florida's Gold Coast. He was an avid fisherman, boater and enjoyed playing golf. Most of all Iver loved spending time with his family, particularly summers at his cottage in Eastham on Cape Cod where he so enjoyed the Outer Beaches of Nauset Inlet and all that it had to offer. He had also been a lifetime member of the Olive Branch Lodge A.F. & A.M., 24th Masonic District.

Iver's funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 14th in the Millbury Federated Church, 20 Main St. in Millbury, MA. Burial will be in St Brigid Cemetery in Millbury, MA. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association of New England, 460 Totten Pond Road, Suite 44, Waltham, MA 02451-1991.
