James Bates

James R. Bates, 49, died suddenly after being stricken ill in his home.

James leaves a daughter, Hannah M. Bates of Sutton; his mother, Marie N. (Bourdelais) Bates; five brothers, Wayne P. Bates of Boylston; Michael G. Bates and his wife, Patricia of Holden, Garry F. Bates and his wife, Tanya of Oxford, Kenneth J. Bates and his wife, Kathleen of Worcester and Robert E. Bates and his wife Kristie of Shrewsbury; his former wife, Susan of Whitinsville; many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, Earle F. Bates.

James worked as a mechanic at Patrick Motors for 30 years. He was a member of Singletary Rod and Gun club. He was an avid outdoorsmen including fishing, hunting, and boating. James loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his daughter, Hannah who was the apple of his eye. He also enjoyed listening to Hannah's music, watching the Boston sports teams and woodworking.

James's calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 21st in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury. His funeral service and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Sutton Senior Center, 19 Hough Road, Sutton MA 01590.
