James "Jim" Giro

James Edward “Jim” Giro, 61, of Millbury passed away peacefully at UMass Medical Center on Wednesday, January 10 surrounded by his loving family.

Jim leaves his wife of 16 years, Heidi (Orndorff) Giro; his son, James S. “Jake” Giro of Millbury; his stepsons Erich E. Khan of New London, Connecticut, and Alex L. Khan of Brooklyn, New York; his parents, Steven and Anita (Morin) Giro of Millbury; his brothers Gary Giro of Sutton, Mark Giro of Sturbridge, and Andrew Giro of Sutton; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. 

Jim was raised in Millbury and was a graduate of Millbury High School and Worcester State University. He built a grocery career of 40 years, spanning Goretti’s, Big D, Victory and Hannaford supermarkets. Jim was a respected colleague and leader in the industry, and worked as produce manager at Hannaford’s Uxbridge store for more than 15 years. An avid sportsman who played baseball and softball, he was a lifelong Boston sports fan. He held Patriots season tickets for more than a decade, attending Super Bowl XXXVI vs the St. Louis Rams and Super Bowl XXXVIII vs the Carolina Panthers. Jim loved the ocean and Cape Cod was one of his favorite places to visit with his family. Jim was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, who also spent time volunteering as a faith formation teacher for children and as a Eucharistic minister at Masses.

Family and friends will honor and remember Jim’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Friday, Jan. 26^th from 4 to 7 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury.  

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 27^th at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 10 Waters Street in Millbury.  All those attending the Mass are asked to go directly to the church.
