FLORIDA James Higginbottom Jr., 91, of 1420 East Venice Ave., Venice, Florida., formerly of Sutton, Mass, died Monday, March 8th in the Jewish Health Care Center, Worcester, Mass.
His wife Marguerite (Striebel) Higginbottom died in 1983. He leaves a daughter, Christie J. Higginbottom wife of Bruce Craven of Rochdale, Mass.; a son Gary Higginbottom of Portland, Maine.; a sister, Dorothy Mason of Worcester, Mass.; four grandchildren, Jennifer White-Dobbs, Ethan White, Jacob Higginbottom and Rebecca Dahlman; a great-grandson, Brady White; nephews and nieces; a close friend, Phyllis Higgins of Florida. He graduated from Millbury High School in 1928. He attended Clark University in Worcester and was a graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute School of Industrial Management.
Mr. Higginbottom worked for 48 years at the New England High Carbon Wire Corp. in Millbury, Ma., retiring as President in 1980. He was also a past President of the Millbury Cooperative Bank, when it became a subsidiary of Fidelity Cooperative Bank in Fitchburg, Mass.
He was a member and former Deacon of the First Congregational Church of Sutton. He was a life member and Past Master of the Olive Branch Lodge of Masons, Millbury, Mass., a member of the Venice Gardens Homeowners Assoc., the Venice Gardens MenTM)s Golf League, the Venice Gardens Bowling League and a life member of the Greendale Retired MenTM)s Club. He was a former chairman of the Sutton Boy Scout Troop #143 and was formerly involved in the Sutton Little League. During his life as a golfer he scored 4 holes-in-one and was champion of his Venice League in 1998..
His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 12th in the First Congregational Church, Boston Road, Sutton, Mass. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery, Sutton. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 11th, in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury, Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hearing Program, Venice Lions Club Foundation, 1289 Jacaranda Blvd., Venice, Florida, 34292.
