MILLBURY - James H. OTM)Leary, 84, of 18 Millbury Ave., died Friday, Sept. 7, in St. Vincent Hospital at the Worcester Medical Center.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Grace V. (Pescheta) OTM)Leary; a son Thomas M. OTM)Leary of Millbury; two grandchildren; James P. OTM)Leary of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Michael T. OTM)Leary of Worcester; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of John J. and Eileen (Doyle) OLeary and has lived in Millbury 55 years. He is predeceased by a son, James OTM)Leary Jr., a brother, John OTM)Leary and a sister, Irene OTM)Leary. Mr. OTM)Leary attended Commerce High School in Worcester. He then graduated from Bridgton Academy Preparatory School in Bridgton, Maine, in 1938, then he graduated from Holy Cross College in Worcester, in 1942 with a BS degree in education and then from Boston University with a Master Degree in education, in 1948
Mr. OTM)Leary served 32 years as a teacher in the Millbury School Department. During that time he was also a track and cross country coach and was principal of the Elmwood Street School, when he retired in 1978. He was an Army-Air Corp. radio man during WW II. He served with the 367th Fighter Group and received the Bronze Star when his plane was shot down in the Pacific Theater.
He was a member of St. BrigidTM)s Church, the 367 Fighter Group Association, the Singletary Rod and Gun Club and the 200 Sportsman Club. His hobbies were fishing and hunting.
The funeral will be held Monday, Sept. 10, from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Brigids Church, 59 Main St. Burial will be in St. BrigidTM)s Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at the funeral home.
