Janice Ann (Williams) Dawson, aged 91, of Plano, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2024, surrounded by family. She was born on February 22, 1933 in North Adams, Massachusetts to Robert and Ann Williams. Janice was known for her intelligence, generosity, loyalty, pride in her hometown of Millbury, Massachusetts, faith in the Boston Red Sox and love for her family.
Janice is survived by her daughters Laura (Wayne) Russell and Cynthia (Paul) Rovezzi, sons Christopher (Patricia) Dawson and Robert (Terry) Dawson, eleven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Dawson, and grandson Michael Russell.
Janice dedicated thirty-four years to the Millbury Public School system, teaching 5th and 6th grade students at Union Street School, Elmwood Street School, and Shaw Elementary. She also served as a Charge Nurse from 1976 to 1996 at the Greenery Extended Care Center, and worked as a realtor at Fitzpatrick Real Estate from 1985 to 2000. She attended Drury High School, later pursuing her higher education at Fitchburg State College and Burbank Hospital School of Nursing.
She was actively involved in her community, serving as Campfire Girls leader, town moderator of Millbury for eleven years, member and secretary of the Millbury Democratic Town Committee, and was named Democrat of the Year for Millbury in 2001. Jan was also a devout Catholic, having served as a lector at St. Brigid Parish in Millbury, Massachusetts, and Our Lady of Angels Parish in Plano, Texas.
Janice enjoyed participating in community theater with the Sutton Community Players Club (1964-1971), Irish festivals, catching a ball game, reading voraciously, and most of all, spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed and always remembered.
There will be a funeral Mass at Our Lady of Angels, 1914 Ridgeview Drive, Allen, TX 75013 to be held June 6th at 2:00 pm. There will be a rosary beginning at 1:15 pm and a reception will follow.
She will be interred with her husband, Robert,
on July 22nd at 11:00 in St. Brigid’s Cemetery in Millbury, Massachusetts. A reception will follow in the function room at A&D Pizza, 60 Elm Street, Millbury, Massachusetts.
