WORCESTER – Jeremy (Jackson) "Mimi" Huffman, 71, died Tuesday Sept. 3rd in her home, after an illness.
She was born in New Bedford and raised in Fairhaven, daughter of Thomas and Emily (Hayter) Jackson. She graduated from Fairhaven High School in 1959, Framingham State Teachers College (MA) in 1963 with a BA in Education, and Pepperdine University (CA) in 1973 with a Masters in Psychology. She leaves her sister, Jodi Dromgoole, with whom she lived; a niece, Erin Dromgoole; many cousins from the Blackburn, Leevers & Hayter families; her former husband & friend, Arthur Huffman.
Mimi moved all around USA, hiking and mountain climbing, loving the travel and all her cats. A published poet, artist, and free spirit, she was a redheaded beauty with a passion to match. She was a senior activity coordinator in nursing homes in California, a DJ with a classical music radio station in Colorado, and Director of Social Services in Teller County, CO. She will be dearly missed after having fought strong battles, winning over colon cancer and later losing to pancreatic cancer. Our thank you goes for all the loving care from Dr. Chan and Dr. Sheikh, her nurse Michelle RN., those @ Central MA P.T., and Ann Marie RN and the care team from the Jewish Health Care Hospice.
A gathering of friends will be held Saturday, Sept. 7th, 1-3 p.m. at The Willows of Worcester, Great Room, 101 Barry Rd., Worcester, MA. Mulhane Home for Funerals in Millbury is assisting the family, who will spread her ashes over the ocean at Key West, FL, at a future date.
