MILLBURY - Joan A. (Cleary) Lucas, of 10 Canal St., died Monday, June 18, in her home, after an illness.
She leaves her husband of 58 years, Frederick E. Lucas; four sons, Gary F. Lucas of East Freetown, Brian R. Lucas of Harwich Port, Frederick W. Lucas of Midlothian, Virginia and Thomas J. Lucas of Millbury; three daughters, Barbara A. Lavallee and J. Charlene Grenier both of Millbury and Mary A. Vecchione of Uxbridge; three brothers, Gordon Cleary, Albert Cleary and Thomas J. Cleary all of Worcester; three sisters, Alice Metros of Leominster, Mary Keeney and Helen Casavant both of Worcester; 24 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by three sisters, Elizabeth Lund, Mildred Cleary and Katherine Whalen. She was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, daughter of Thomas J. and Mary A (McGrath) Cleary and has lived in Millbury for 50 years. She graduated form St. Peters High School in Worcester and then from Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing.
Mrs. Lucas was a Staff Nurse at the former Smith Nusing Home for 10 years and then was the Director of Nursing Service there for 11 years. During this time she was also a consultant at Dodge Park Rest Home in Worcester, retiring in 1990.
The funeral will be held Thursday, June 21, from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 14 Waters St. Burial will be in St. BrigidTM)s Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Renovation Fund, 12 Waters St., Millbury, Ma. 01527.
