Joan O'Connor

November 14, 1950 — November 22, 2024

MILLBURY

MILLBURY - Joan O’Connor, 74, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024, with family by her side and visited by many in her last days. Born on November 14, 1950, to Grace and Donald Kasputis, Joan spent her childhood by Dorothy Pond in Millbury. After living in Shrewsbury for several years, she returned to her beloved hometown in 1999, where she remained for life.

A devoted mother, Joan’s greatest pride and joy were her daughters, Jolene Newhouse and Haley Schutz. As a single mother, she worked tirelessly to provide for them and enrich their lives with diverse activities and cherished family vacations to Hampton Beach. Her love extended to her grandson, Weston, and her loyal Welsh Corgi, Sammy, as well as her “grand-dog,” Meena, whom she delighted in teaching playful tricks.

Joan built a meaningful career at National Grid, formerly New England Electric, where she formed countless lifelong friendships. Known for her bold personality and outspoken nature, she embraced life with humor and wasn’t afraid to be the center of attention.

She had a passion for travel and made unforgettable memories exploring Bermuda, Turkey, India, and Ireland. In retirement, Joan found joy in treasure hunting at antique and thrift stores and creating unique floral arrangements from nature’s gifts—flowers, feathers, and twigs—which she loved giving as thoughtful presents. Joan gave back to her community by volunteering at the Millbury Senior Center and delivering Meals on Wheels, embodying her generous and caring nature. Joan loved exploring new restaurants, always eager to try unique dishes and savor flavors from different cuisines. She especially enjoyed beef carpaccio and Chinese cuisine.

Predeceased by her husband, Larry O’Connor, and her parents, Grace and Donald Kasputis, Joan is survived by her daughters, Jolene and Haley; her sister, Janet Toklu; her brothers, Phil Kasputis (and wife Hope) and Paul Kasputis (and wife Christine); her grandson, Weston; her niece and nephews and extended family.

Joan faced life’s challenges with remarkable resilience, leaving behind a legacy of hope, love, and determination. She will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, bold spirit, and zest for life. Joan’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were touched by her presence. A big thank you for the compassionate care of the 3rd-floor staff at Adviniacare Northbridge.

Family and friends are invited to join in a visitation period at the Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury MA on Sunday December 1st between the hours of 1 & 3 offering an opportunity to share memories, celebrate Joan’s life, and find comfort in the company of loved ones.
