John M. Haynes, 86, of Millbury, MA passed peacefully on Saturday, December 21, surrounded by his family. Born on October 15, 1938, he was the son of William and Elsie (Briddon) Haynes and was proud to have been a Millbury resident in his youth and adulthood.
Mr. Haynes was a graduate of Millbury Memorial High School. Following high school, he attended business school before beginning his career in accounting, most notably as a tax examiner for the State of Connecticut. On a trip to Gothenburg, Sweden in 1964, John met the love of his life, Anita. They got married on July 27, 1968 in a rural church in Sweden and had a beautiful 56 year marriage boasting two beautiful daughters and enough memories to last a lifetime.
John spent his retired years enjoying many active hobbies. Well into his 80s, you could find him and his wife, Anita, hiking, biking, walking, or cross-country skiing on any given day. They were notorious for their road trips to active destinations such as Canada, Vermont, Cape Cod, and Rhode Island. They were incredibly well-traveled, having visited many states and countries throughout their lives together.
John was known for his incredible sense of direction and ability to navigate just about anywhere, and his love for the game of tennis. He was an incredible investor, making many thoughtful and well researched investments in the stock market. He could be found with a copy of the Wall Street Journal at the kitchen table nearly daily. He was incredibly generous with his time, patience, understanding, and listening ear, often being a sounding board and voice of reason for his loved ones. He was a beloved Morfar to four grandkids and spent many early mornings flipping plättar for hungry grandkids, wintry afternoons building sledding hills, and evenings watching Ice Age while laughing at his favorite character Sid the Sloth.
John was predeceased by his older brother, Bill, and his twin brother, David. He leaves his wife and soulmate, Anita (Jonasson) Haynes; two daughters, Maria (Haynes) Mccann and her husband Stephen, and Kaisa Haynes; and four grandchildren, Kristina, Allison, Sean, and Andrew.
