MILLBURY / Largo FL – John W. Herbst Jr., of Largo, FL formerly of Millbury, MA, died May 26, 2012 in St. Petersburg, FL.
He leaves his wife, Gloria A. (Jackson) Herbst; three daughters, Kathy Pellegrino and her husband, James of South Dakota, Mary-Jo Hall of West Boylston and Judy Rennie and her husband Alex of Connecticut; two sisters, Patricia Cooney of Millbury and Phyllis Quinn of Cape Cod; a brother, Richard Herbst of Worcester; six grandchildren, Dario, Anna, Nick, Johnny a US Marine deployed, Dylan and Tori; one great grandchild, Benjamin; nephews and nieces. He was born in Millbury and is predeceased by his parents, John W. and Marie (Burnap) Herbst, his 1st wife, Betty L. (Beale) Herbst and his son, John W. Herbst III.
John was a salesman for many area companies before he retired and served in the Marine Corp during the Korean War. He graduated from St. John's High School, then in Worcester and was inducted into their Sports Hall of Fame. He was an avid golfer.
His funeral will be held Monday, June 11th from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury with a Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 Main St. Millbury. Burial will be in Central Cemetery in Millbury. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 10th in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. John's High School, 378 Main St., Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
