WEBSTER - Dr. John E.D. McGuigan Jr., 82, of Webster, formerly of Sutton, died Tuesday, February 19th in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester.
He leaves his wife, Margaret A. (McDermott) Cashmon McGuigan; a son, J. David and his wife Susan McGuigan of Charlton; two daughters, Maryellen J. wife of David Chamberlain of Charlton and Catherine A. wife of Edward LaFlamme of Millbury; four step-sons, Robert and his wife Debbie Cashmon of Wakefield, RI, John M. Cashmon of Cromwell, CT, Stephen and his wife, Carole Lee Cashmon of Daytona, FL and Kevin and his wife Blair Cashmon of Middletown, RI; his former wife, Rosemary McGuigan of Charlton; a sister, Sr. Kathryn McGuigan of the Sisters of Mercy in Cumberland, RI; eight grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Providence, RI, and is predeceased by his parents John E.D. and Esther (Costigan) McGuigan and a son, James M. McGuigan.
Dr. McGuigan was a general surgeon and was formerly affiliated with St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester and then was a medical doctor with the Fallon Clinic in Worcester, before he retired. Dr. McGuigan was a 4th Degree Knight in Webster, a member of Elks Lodge in Webster, the Ancient Order of Hibernians in American, the American Legion in Webster, the Veterans of Foreign of Wars Post 654 and the Providence College Alumni Association. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia and was a Navy veteran during the Korean War.
His funeral will be held Friday, February 22nd from the Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Brigid's Church, 59 Main St., Millbury. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery, Sutton. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. (today) Thursday, February 21st in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital P.O. Box 50 Memphis, TN 38101.
