John Mckeon

June 16, 1923 — May 23, 2003

MILLBURY - John J. "Jack" McKeon, 79, of 45 Rayburn Dr., formerly of Worcester, died Friday, May 23, in St. Vincent Hospital, at the Worcester Medical Center, Worcester.

He leaves his wife, Marie T. (Quitadamo) McKeon; a son. John J. McKeon Jr. of Sterling; three, daughters, Kari A. Raffa of Millbury, Gail E. Braio of Estero, Fl. and Kathleen D. McKeon of Worcester; two brothers, Robert McKeon of Worcester and William McKeon of West Virginia; three grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A son, Daniel F. McKeon, two brothers Edward "Dixie" McKeon and Anthony McKeon, two sisters, Dorothy Parker and Catherine McKeon predeceased him. He was born in Leicester, son of John F. and Katherine (Johnson) McKeon and lived in Worcester moving to Millbury in 1991. He graduated from Leicester High School.

Mr. McKeon worked at U.S. Steel and Wire Company and was a sales representative for Sawyers Lumber Co. and both in Worcester, before he retired in 1975. He was an Army veteran during WW II serving in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

He was a member of St. BrigidTM)s Church and a former member and volunteer at the CCD Program of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Worcester. He was a founder and former member of the South Works Veterans of Foreign War Post in Worcester, an active life member and Chaplain of Charles F. Minney Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, a member and Chaplain of the Millbury Veterans Council and a member of the American Disabled Veterans, Chapter #4, in Worcester. He was a former coach and announced games for the Joe Schwartz Little League in Worcester for over 36 years. He was a former bingo volunteer at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Worcester for 10 years and a bingo volunteer at the Ladies Auxiliary at the Charles F. Minney Post. He was a former Altar server at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Worcester and St. BrigidTM)s Church. He was named Veteran of the Year in 2002 by the Charles F. Minney Post.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 27 from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. BrigidTM)s Church, 59 Main St. Burial will be in St. JohnTM)s Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 26, at the funeral home. Members of the Charles F. Minney Post and the Millbury Veterans Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday for prayers, at the funeral home.
