- John M. Scannell, Jr., 68, died Monday, January 20, 2014 after a brief illness in UMASS Memorial Healthcare in Worcester.
John leaves his son, John M. Scannell, III and his son's girlfriend, Dawn Oxnard of New Milford, CT; a brother, Joseph P. Scannell. He is predeceased by his parents, John M. and Nora (Sullivan) Scannell and an aunt, Mary A. Scannell.
John was owner and operator of Scannell's Package Store in Millbury for over 30 years before retiring. He recently worked for Lab Corp in Worcester and part time at the Village Knoll in Millbury. John was a member of the Fairlane Club of America and loved going to car shows with his son in his 1967 Ford Fairlane. John won numerous car show awards and was a 3 time Top 25 winner at the New England Summer Nationals. He was an avid Red Sox and Bruins fan.
John's calling hours will be held on Thursday, Jan.
23rd from 5 to 8 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main Street in Millbury.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Jan. 24th at 11 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 Main Street in Millbury. Burial will follow in St. Brigid Cemetery in Millbury.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, P.O. Box 96280, Washington D.C., 20077.
