SUTTON - John H. "Jim" Whittier, 67, of 86 Douglas Road, died Friday, Feb. 18th in his home after an illness.
He leaves his wife, Janice A. (Salo) Whittier; two sons, Wayne H. and his wife, Mary C. Whittier and Todd J. Whittier and a daughter, Nancy E. wife of Paul Raymond all of Sutton; a sister, Hazel wife of Richard Chase of Holt, Michigan; five grandchildren, Samantha, John and Diana Whittier and Mitchell and Elisa Raymond; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Harold F. and Vivian M. (Merrill) Whittier. He graduated from Sutton High School in 1955 and attended Stockbridge School of Agriculture.
He was president and treasurer of Whittier Farms Inc. since 1978. Previously he was the clerk of the corporation from 1961 to 1978. He was a member of National, New England and State Holstein Association. He was an Honorary member of Singletary Rod & Gun Club. He was a former member of the Sutton Conservation Board. He was a member of the Sutton Men's Bowling League and a member of the Couples Club of West Sutton. He received numerous awards throughout his career for his service and contributions to the future of agriculture.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22nd in the First Congregational Church, 312 Boston Road, on the common, Sutton. After cremation, his remains will be scattered at Whittier Farms. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21st in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main Street, Millbury. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to the Sutton Senior Center, Hough Road, Sutton or to a charity of choice.
