Jose Jorge Duque, 97, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012 in Raleigh, NC where he spent the winters with his son.
Jose's wife, Noemia da Conceicao Duque died in 2008. He leaves two sons, Joseph M. Duque and his wife, Gail (Behnke) Duque of Raleigh, NC and Jorge C. Duque and his wife, Bozena (Mikolajczyk) Duque of Millbury; two grandchildren, Artur J. Duque and his wife, Christine of Millbury and Darek J. Duque and his wife, Daizy of Stanford, CT; a great grandson, Joshua, and a great granddaughter, Emma; many nieces and nephews in the U.S., Portugal, and Brazil. Jose is predeceased by his father, Manuel Duque Moco and his mother, Joaquina da Trindade Jorge. He was one of six children.
He was born in 1915 in Mira de Aire, Portugal and moved to Brazil in 1950. In 1959 he moved to the U.S. and settled in New Bedford where he lived until 2005. When his wife became ill, they moved to Millbury and lived with his son. Jose was proud of becoming a Nationalized American Citizen. He was an active gardener, arborist, vintner, loved taking walks, and telling stories. He was an active member of the Luso American Organization and the Monte Pio Luso Club, both in New Bedford.
Jose's funeral will be held Saturday, April 28th from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main Street, Millbury with a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 Main St., Millbury. Burial will be in Central Cemetery, Millbury. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 27th in the funeral home.
