Joseph F. Driscoll, 89, died peacefully on June 15th at St. Mary Health Care Center in Worcester.
Born in 1926, Joe was the father of 10 children, a teacher in Worcester Public Schools for 37 years, an entrepreneur, and a devout Catholic. He was a member of The Holy Cross Alumni Sodality of Our Lady and served as a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Lourdes in Worcester. He was a member of St. Brigid Parish in Millbury. He graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 1947 and received a master's degree in education from Boston University.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary T. (Harris) Driscoll; a daughter, Catherine Fuller and a son, Michael Driscoll. Joe is survived by his devoted family; Mary Morgan and her husband, Mark of Westwood, Elisabeth Driscoll of Sutton, Eileen Norman and her husband, Gordon of Reno, NV, Joseph Driscoll and his wife, Susan of Jacksonville, FL, Daniel Driscoll of Millbury, Timothy Driscoll of Millbury, Jane Wilbur and her husband, Ted of Oxford, and Gabriel Berman and her husband, Peter of San Diego, CA; several grandchildren and a great grandson, Teddy.
He will be remembered by many in Millbury as president of Harris Oil & Ice Company and as the imaginative businessman who imported Christmas trees from Canada and distributed hay to farms across New England. Joe was an avid health enthusiast. In his younger days, Joe was a tennis player, expert water skier, alpine skier, and in his middle years, a member of Boston's L. Street Brownies, famous for diving into the ocean on New Year's Day.
The calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 17th from 5 to 8 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main Street in Millbury.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, June 18th with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 Main Street in Millbury. Burial will be private.
