MILLBURY – Joseph F. Gonsorcik, 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 19th, surrounded by his family.
Joe leaves behind a daughter Joyce Dufresne (Duffy) of Millbury; three grandsons Keith Lavallee, Jamy Lavallee (Lynn) and Bryan Dufresne; a granddaughter Jessica Bermingham (Jay); several great grandchildren; his brothers John Gonsorcik of Linwood and Andrew Gonsorcik of Arizona; many nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his wife Ruth, daughter Jill Lavallee, sister Frances Jolda and a great granddaughter Paige Lavallee.
He grew up in Douglas and was born on March 15th, 1927, to Joseph F. Gonsorcik and Mary B. (Bombara) Gonsorcik. Joe joined the Navy and served during WWII the greatest generation. After getting out of the Navy he married Ruth (Aubin) Gonsorcik and settled on Canal Street in Millbury.
Joe was the longest standing member of the Dudley Gendron Post in Sutton, Mass. and was a 10-year veteran of the Millbury Fire Department Engine 1. He attained the rank of 3rd degree member in the Knights of Columbus Council 365, Whitinsville, Mass. Joe retired from Defalco Concrete and was a member of Teamsters Local 170. After his retirement he had a lawn service and hired many children from Millbury to help him. He mowed his own lawn until he turned 90!
Family and friends are invited to remember Joe’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Tuesday, April 25th from 5 to 7 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 26th at 11 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 N. Main Street, Millbury. Burial will follow in Central Cemetery, Millbury.
