SUTTON- Joseph R. Lulu, 85, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, October 16, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.
Joe leaves his wife of 61 years, Carol A. (Hackett) Lulu; Five children, Joseph R. Lulu Jr., Debra McGrath, Lisa Larosee, Michael Lulu, Tammy Anyon and her husband Terrance; Ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren; A brother Robert Lulu; Two sisters Eleanor Wood and Frances Chunis; and his many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a daughter Mary Francis Lulu and his sister Arlene Klazer.
Joe is the son of Raymond and Stella (Podeski) Lulu.
Joe worked at his father’s diner in Uxbridge after high school. He then proceeded to serve in the National Guard for six years. When he returned from service, he worked for Stylon in Milford, then for New England Telephone Co. for 40 years until he retired.
On October 31, 1959, Joe married the love of his life, Carol A. (Hacket) Lulu. Together, they had 6 children, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Joe, Carol and their children lived in Worcester for 10 years until moving to Sutton in 1969. When they moved to Sutton, Joe became a faithful parishioner of St. Mark’s Church.
Joe was extremely hardworking. He helped everyone with projects they needed done, as well as completing his own projects. Some of his projects included putting an addition onto their home, building two barns with his family, and improving upon his many stone walls. Joe enjoyed being outdoors and had many hobbies. Bird watching and maintaining his many gardens were some of his hobbies. He also enjoyed deer hunting with his sons and grandsons.
Over Joe’s 20 plus years of retirement, he went to many of his grandchildren’s sports games and family barbeques. He also enjoyed going out to eat at Schultzy’s Place with his family. Another thing Joe enjoyed was scaring squirrels using his famous “squirrel call” with his granddaughter Kerry every morning while waiting for the school bus. He also traveled to many places including Alaska, Ireland, Las Vegas and many other destinations with Carol, Family and friends.
Joe will be deeply missed by many people.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joe’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Wednesday, Oct. 21st from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct 22nd at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mark’s Church, 356 Boston Road, Sutton, MA 01590. Burial will be private. Current social guidelines regarding masks and social distancing will be followed.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Church or the donor’s choice.
