Joseph H. Reeves, Jr., 73, died unexpectedly Saturday October 5, 2013 in Millbury.
His wife of 45 years, Mary Anastasia (Zalieckas) Reeves died recently in September. Joe leaves three sons, Kevin Reeves of Shrewsbury, Keith Reeves and Shawn Reeves and his wife, Rebecca both of Millbury; 6 grandchildren; Danielle, Cole, Lilly, Kasey, Drew, and Jack; a sister, Betty-Anne and her husband Don Leblanc of Millbury; two sisters in law, Anne and her husband, Francis Frederico, Julia and her husband, Robert Guertin all of Millbury; a brother in law, Joseph Zalieckas of Spencer; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph Sr. and Elizabeth (O'Connor) Reeves and his younger brother William.
Mr. Reeves was born and raised in Millbury and graduated from Millbury Memorial High School, where he was an avid athlete, playing football, baseball and track. He held a record for the longest shot-put.
Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserve.
Joe was involved in the family business, Millbury Boston Express Inc. before working for New England High Carbon Wire for twenty plus years. He also started his own business Reeves & Son's, before retiring from the Millbury Public Works. He was a member of the Millbury Fire Department.
Joe and his wife wed and moved to Grafton in 1968, where they started their family. He enjoyed playing softball and traveled with teams across New England. He also enjoyed spending summers on the lake at Ramshorn, time in Vermont with his family & best friend Phil Day Sr., camping and playing cards "worst pitch partner eva". Joe was an avid sportsman, his favorite past time was hunting in the Berkshires with his sons. Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a proud member of the 'Old Timers Gang'.
Joe's calling hours will be held on Thursday, Oct. 10th from 5 to 8 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main Street in Millbury. His Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Oct. 11th at 11 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 Main Street in Millbury. Burial will follow the Mass in Central Cemetery in Millbury.
