WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- Judith (Stewart) Dresser, 57 formerly of Millbury, Ma., a community activist, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, in her home, on the Chickahominy River, after a long illness.
She leaves her husband of 35 years, Paul A. Dresser Jr.; a daughter, Amanda E. Dresser Gada of Williamsburg; an aunt, Eileen OTM)Connor of Worcester, Ma.; and several cousins. She was born in Worcester, Ma., daughter of James and Elizabeth (McGill) Stewart and has lived in in the Williamsburg area since 1970. She graduated from Millbury Memorial High School and then from Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vt. in 1965.
Mrs. Dresser was formerly employed by the Central Intelligence AgencyTM)s National Security Council in the situation room of the White House.
She was secretary and treasurer of the Riverwood Community Association, a member of the executive committee of the James River Association Board and a member of the Council of the Historic Route 5 Association. She was also serving on the executive committee of the board of directors for Hospice Support Care of Williamsburg. As a member of the Hospice board since 1998, she had chaired the community relations division of the highly successful capital campaign to build the Hospice House for Williamsburg and also served on the building and interior design committees during the construction. She was a long time member of the League of Women Voters and the James City County Democratic Committee, where she participated in a number of political campaigns and served for twelve years as legislative assistant to Delegate George W. Grayson, 97th District of the House of Delegates. She was member and former president of the Windsor Forest Association and a member of the Charles City County Citizens Youth Advisory Board and in 1998 was the first citizen chairperson for the Neighborhoods Conference of the Greater Williamsburg. During the 1990TM)s she served on the board of directors for the Housing Partnership and the Williamsburg Land Conservancy. She was a member of the Capital Campaign Committee for Child Development Resources and a founding member of the steering committee for the Williamsburg WomeNetworking organization.
A funeral service was held at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, in Williamsburg Community Chapel, 3899 John Tyler Highway. A second funeral service will also he held at 7 p.m. Firday, Feb. 7, in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury, Ma.. Burial will be in Central Cemetery, Millbury, Ma. Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, in Mulhane Home for Funerals.
