MILLBURY - Leon A. Woodward, 88, of 23 Howe Avenue, died Thursday, Jan. 16, in the Salisbury Nursing Home, Worcester.
He leaves his wife, of 66 years, Rita M. (Sweet) Woodward; three daughters, Marcia Davis of East Sandwich, Charlene Anton of Auburn and Sandra Ward of Millbury; two sons, Robert Woodward of Aurora, Colorado and Bruce Woodward of Holden; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Six brothers and three sisters predeceased him. He was born in Millbury, son of Josiah C. and Grace (Spencer) Woodward and has lived in Millbury all his life. He attended Millbury High School.
Mr. Woodward was a Machine Assembler at Norton Company in Worcester for 29 years, retiring in 1973. He was a part time assessor in Millbury for twelve years and then became MillburyTM)s first full time Assessor from July 1973 to March 1975, when he retired.
He was a member of St. BrigidTM)s Church and a charter member of itTM)s MenTM)s Club, the Massachusetts AssessorTM)s Association and the Worcester County Assessors Association. He was a member of the Executive Board of Worcester City Assessors Association from 1969 to 1975 and a member of the Worcester Police Association. He was a member of the Millbury Old TimerTM)s for over 50 years, and he was the Honored Old Timer at their banquet, last year.
The funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 20, from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., (

) with a Mass at 10 a.m.in St. BrigidTM)s Church, 59 Main St.. Burial will be in Central Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Auburn District Nursing Assoc., 191 Pakachoag St., P.O. Box 4, Auburn, Ma. 01501.
