MILLBURY Lorion W. "Larry" Bird, 87, of 29 Davis Rd., passed away peacefully Thursday, March 17th.
His loving wife of 60 years, Ruby E. (Sylvester) Bird died in 1998. He leaves a son, David P. and his wife Laurie (Deluca) Bird of Millbury; two grandchildren, Lori A. Bird of Worcester and Sherri L. Sanasucci of Warren; two step-grandchildren, Jesse and Michael Deluca of Millbury; three great grandchildren, Amber, Jake and Gina. He is also predeceased by a granddaughter, Lisa A. Bird, four sister, Myrthe, Carol, Blanche and Amy.
He was a foreman at Heald Machine Co. in Worcester where he worked for 45 years, before he retired. He was also a member of many local organizations. Larry had quite a military background as a Navy veteran during WW II & Korean War. He received the Purple Heart for his outstanding service.
To this day he still carried the silver dollar his mother gave him at 19 years old, so that he would never be broke. Larry spent every Saturday morning with his friends at Spags in Shrewsbury, talking about times gone by. His daily route included coffee and chocolate chip cookies at PaulTM)s Center Bakery in Millbury with his friends, where they discussed things going on in Millbury. He will be missed by all his friends and family.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m.Wednesday March 23rd in West Millbury Cemetery, 4 South Oxford Rd., West Millbury. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lisa Ann Bird Memorial Scholarship Fund in Care of the Millbury Federal Credit Union, 50 Main St., Millbury, MA 01527. Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury is assisting the family with arrangements.
