WEBSTER- Lorna J. (Opacki) Gilchrist, 63, who grew up in Millbury MA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 12th after a long, hard fought battle with illness at UMASS Memorial Medical Center.
Lorna leaves her two sons, John and Jesse Gilchrist of Charlton, and Sara Patrinos, whom she considered her adopted daughter of Dudley. She is predeceased by her son, Jake Gilchrist, her parents, Carl and Frances Opacki, her brothers Carl and Edward Opacki, and her sister Carlene Allard.
Lorna worked most of her career as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service where she also held many other positions up until her retirement in 2016. Her life was all about being with her closet family, and friends. She enjoyed hosting many gatherings where she always made sure everyone was welcomed into her home. She was an avid sports fan and, loved cheering on the Patriots, and Red Sox. Every year she looked forward to taking her family vacation to Hampton Beach where she enjoyed making many memories. She was an extreme animal lover, spending many of her days with her beloved cats. She opened her heart to everyone and would do anything for the people she loved. She will be remembered as being a kind, loving and gracious woman that was always full of life.
Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Lorna’s life by gathering for time of visitation on Wednesday, January 19th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury. Her funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Face masks are required in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
