SUTTON - Marjorie Elisabeth Neal, age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 28, 2020, at Sunrise Senior Center in Burlington, MA. She was born in Dorchester on May 17, 1931, daughter of Cameron and Marjorie (Dennis) Gardner and lived in Needham, Fairfield, CT, Shrewsbury and Sutton before moving to Burlington.
She married Elwood A. Neal, Jr., in June of 1953 who preceded her in death in 1994. Together they raised three children in Needham - Cathy E. Williams of Merrimack, NH; David C. Neal of Falmouth; and Rebecca A. Neal of Mansfield. A graduate of Gorham State Teachers College, Gorham, ME, she worked as a children’s librarian and elementary school teacher for nearly 40 years. Most recently, she worked in the Sutton Elementary School until her retirement.
Marge, as she was known by her friends, took a genuine interest in everyone’s life. She could talk to anyone and was a friend to all – she will long be remembered for her warm and caring nature. Throughout her life, Marge was an avid reader and a collector of books. She instilled this love of reading and storytelling in the children she taught as well as sharing this passion with her own family. Her family was her greatest joy. Her children will remember her for fostering in them the value of family and her grandchildren for the books she read, the stories she imagined, and the warm afghans and mittens she knitted for them all. She will be greatly missed.
Marjorie was recently predeceased by her beloved daughter, Rebecca. She is survived by her daughter Cathy, son David, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services and burial were private.
I n lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Marjorie’s name to the charity of your choice.
