Mary Joan (Marlborough) O’Connor, died August 30th after a long illness. Born in Millbury, Massachusetts, she lived in Worcester most of her life.  She leaves her son, Paul P. O’Connor of Worcester, a daughter, Anne Kane of Hudson, and their families, including many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Joseph Matthews. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Richard J. O’Connor and brother-in-law Rev. Joseph E. O’Connor, SJ.

Mary’s priority was her family. She was a long-time member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish. She was an active volunteer recognized by the Worcester Association for the Blind for her many translations of print books into Braille, and by Tower Hill Botanical Garden for her thousands of hours of service during her retirement. She tutored ESL students at Assumption Center and was active in the Guild of St. Agnes and other social organizations.

Mary was a graduate of Boston University.  She worked at Auburn High School, Catholic Charities of Worcester and The Worcester Art Museum.

The family wishes to publicly recognize the capable and compassionate care Mary received at Notre Dame Health Care Assisted Living, Health Center, and Hospice during her illness.

Mary’s funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9th at 10 a.m. in Chapel of the Holy Spirit at Assumption College, 500 Salisbury Street in Worcester. There are no calling hours.  Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory can be made to Catholic Charities of Worcester or Notre Dame Health Care.
