MILLBURY - Mary J. (Wilczynski) Szkutak passed away on January 27, 2023 at the age of 94. Her husband of 55 years, Edward, passed away in January of 2005. Mary was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Stanley W. and Helen J. (Grzeszinski) Wilczynski and lived in Millbury most of her life.
She leaves a daughter, Deborah S. and son in law Peter F. Kasarjian of Plymouth, Ma; sons David E. and daughter in law Joan B. Szkutak of St. Augustine, FL, Edward A. Szkutak, Jr. and daughter in law Deborah E. Johnston of Boston, Ma, and Thomas J. and daughter in law Pamela J. Szkutak of Boston, Ma. She leaves six grandchildren, Brian Kasarjian and his wife Genevieve of Kingston, Ma; Katherine K. Murphy and her husband Brian of Acton, Ma.; Amanda Szkutak of San Francisco, Ca., Abigail Szkutak of NY, NY.; Emma Szkutak of Danvers, Ma and Rebecca Szkutak of Brooklyn, NY. She leaves four great grandchildren, Aidan, Addison and Harper Murphy of Acton and Johannah Kasarjian of Kingston. She leaves her sister in law Doris Wilczynski of Millbury and many cherished nieces and nephews, especially Theodore Wilczynski and god daughters Lisa Bennes and Patricia Stepanski Plouffe. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by two sisters and six brothers: Irene Pietrowicz, Jane Stepanski, Chester, Henry, Charles, Theodore, Stanley and Edward Wilczynski.
Mary was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church where she and her husband were married in 1950, taught Christian Doctrine classes and was a member of the Woman’s Guild.
After her children were grown, Mary returned to the business world and retired as a trust officer at the former Guaranty Bank and Trust Bank of New England in 1989. She was a member of the Millbury Women’s Club and Thursday Lyceum Society. An avid reader, she also enjoyed gardening and spending winters in Florida. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her devoted and loving children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She felt blessed that they were her precious family.
Family and friends will remember and celebrate Mary’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Monday, January 30th from 9 to 10:15 a.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury.
Her Funeral Mass will follow on the same day at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton Street, Worcester, MA 01604. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be to Our Lady of Lourdes Church or the Friends of the Millbury Public Library, 128 Elm St. Millbury MA 01527.
