Michael A. Chizy, 85, passed away on Oct. 21st at UMASS Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 65 years, Yvette D. (Bardier) Chizy; his son, Michael P. Chizy and his wife, Marie of Douglas; two grandchildren, Eric and Alex Chizy; many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by four siblings, Rosalie, Celia, Theodore and Wanda.
Michael was a veteran of the United States Navy. After serving his country Michael married his wife, Yvette and they moved to Sutton to raise their family. Mike served the community of Sutton as a member of the Board of Selectmen, Council of Aging, Conservation Commission, Earth Removal Board, Charter Revision Committee, Strategic Planning Grant Committee, Waters Farm Preservation and the Emergency Planning Committee. He was also a member of the Dudley Gendron American Legion Post 414 in Sutton for over 60 years. Mike was a loyal supporter of the Sutton Food Pantry, which was recently renamed the Michael A. Chizy Food Pantry. He was a past president of the Sutton Cub Scouts and Little League during the 1960's. Mike was at the forefront of green energy by initiating solar panel projects on various municipal and school buildings in Sutton.
Michael's calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 25th from 4 to 8 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 26th with a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Mark's Church, 356 Boston Road in Sutton. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Philip's Cemetery in Grafton.
