MILLBURY – Michael A. Mazzone, 94, passed away peacefully in his home on January 25th with his loving family by his side.
The son of James V. and Mary (Piscopo) Mazzone. He graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester. On December 1, 1951, he married his soulmate and his beloved wife of 72 years, Dolores A. Gallati. He is survived by Dolores, his children, James A. Mazzone and his wife, Linda of Santa Clara, CA, Michael Mazzone and his wife, Barbara of Jacksonville FL, Francis Mazzone and his wife, Robin of Millbury; eight grandchildren, Bee Marie Friolo and Sarah Yost of San Jose, CA, James Mazzone of San Francisco, CA, Gabriel Mazzone of Dallas, TX, Joseph Mazzone of Sutton, John Mazzone of Northbridge, Zachary Mazzone and his wife Morgan of Shelburne Falls and Ian Mazzone of Seattle Washington; 8 great grandchildren, . He also leaves his brother, Thomas W. Mazzone and his wife, Pauline of Worcester, MA. their two children Thomas (wife Rosana) and Andrea, and extended family, Donna Felice, Arthur Quitadamo and wife, Deborah, Mary Riani and husband, Roger, James Quitadamo and wife Jeanne, Marie Wood; many nieces and nephews.
Mike served in the US Navy during the Korean War on board the USS Dennis J. Buckley DDR 808. He worked at Jewett’s Foreign Sport Cars as a parts manager until it closed and retired as the Assistant Postmaster in Millbury after 24 years of service. Mike was a parishioner of St. Brigid Church in Millbury, where he was a eucharistic minister. He was a member of the VFW Post 3329, Tin Can Sailors, Retired Men’s Club of Greendale, trustee of the Millbury Public Library and served on the building committee. He volunteered for 15 years with Club Pack 108 and the Boy Scout Troop 110 in Millbury. Mike and Dolores enjoyed many trips with the Retired Men’s Club, and he was known for his talent with restoring antique furniture.
A special thanks to the UMass Memorial Emergency Department staff and the nurses on 7 East, as well as Care Central VNA Hospice. Your care and compassion were truly remarkable.
Family and friends are invited to remember Mike’s life by gathering for calling hours on Friday, Feb. 2nd from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 N. Main Street in Millbury. His Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the church with burial to follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
