WORCESTER – Michael "Walshy" Walsh, 53, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 19th in his home.
Mike is lovingly remembered by his mother, Carol A. (Lucey) Walsh; his sister, Kathleen O’Connor and her husband, Bill; his nephews, Brendan, Colin, and Ysander and wife Jenny; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends. He was preceded by his father and best friend, William T. Walsh.
Mike was born in Worcester and grew up in Millbury. He graduated from Holy Name High School and attended Hesser College and American International College. Mike found his calling in the hospitality industry, where he met so many people that became life long friends. Most recently, he was the Culinary Director of The Willows at Medway. He cherished spending time with family and friends and eagerly anticipated his vacations at the Cape. There, he hoped to reel in a big fish—or any fish—and dreamed of one day diving with great white sharks, a fascination he enthusiastically celebrated during Shark Week each year. He was also a movie enthusiast. His annual in-depth Oscar predictions were spot-on. Mike was an avid sports fan. He loved the game of golf; he passionately supported UNC basketball, the Patriots, and the Celtics. When New England teams were out of the playoffs, he turned his support to his cousins' New York teams. Mike loved dogs, with Tyson holding a special place in his heart as his loyal companion. He continued his love for dogs by actively caring for and helping to raise future service dogs. Mike's heart was as big as his smile and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His kind spirit, infectious personality, and the joy he brought to others will forever remain in our hearts.
Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Mike’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Wednesday, June 26th from 4 to 7 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 27th at 10 a.m. in St. John’s Catholic Church, 44 Temple Street, Worcester.
Those attending the funeral Mass are asked to go directly to the church.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mike Walsh to Canine Companions at https://canine.org/donate-now/
