Worcester - Michelena "Mickey" Childs, 82, died Thursday, May 8th, 2014 in her home, surrounded by family.
She was married for 62 years to Berton Childs who predeceased her in November of 2013. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Childs of Paxton; three sons, Michael Childs of Worcester, Berton Childs and his wife Cynthia of Easley, SC, and Richard Childs and his wife Catherine of Newport News, VA; two sisters, Carmella Flynn of Oxford and Lucy Testa of Dudley; four grandchildren, Carly, Ashley, Joseph, and Melissa and one great grandson Jessiah; a daughter-in-law, Susan Childs, three step-grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was born in Worcester and is predeceased by her parents, Giacamo and Josephine (Santanstaro) DiSilvestro; a brother, Joseph DiSilvestro; and two sisters, Jenny Parslow and Mary Simpson.
She worked at Worcester Molded Plastics, but spent most of her life doing what she loved most - caring for her children, grandchildren, and the children of other special people in her life. She was the original 'daycare'. Her door was always open and food on the table.
She was an avid bowler and ran the T-Bird Ladies Social League for several years. After bowling, it was back to Mickey's for a game of cards. Later in life, she enjoyed her knitting club and just being 'Gram' to all who passed through her door.
The family would like to thank all at the VNA Care Hospice for the warm and loving care they provided her in her final weeks.
Funeral services and burial will be private. Mulhane Home for Funerals in Millbury is assisting the family with the arrangements. Donations in her memory may be made to the VNA Care Hospice, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
