Muriel J. (Murray)Fitton Downer, 102, of Easley, SC; formerly of W. Millbury and Charlton, MA, and Florida, passed away Friday, January 25th, 2013.
She is survived by her son, Alfred R. Fitton and his wife, Debora of Millbury, MA; her daughter Pearl MacMillan and her husband, Carl of Easley, SC, with whom she lived; a stepson, Donald Downer and his wife, Joan of Auburn. She also leaves a sister, Shirley Downer of Florida; six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and a step great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her first husband, Alfred J. Fitton in 1963; her second husband, Harry H. Downer in 1999 and three brothers, Lorne Murray of Canada, Robert and Cecil Murray, and a sister, Edith Watkins all of Millbury.
She was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, on September 19, 1910 and was the daughter of the late Alonzo E. Murray and Fannie (Ward) Murray. She worked for Norton Company in Worcester, MA for several years until retirement. She was a long time member of Millbury Baptist Church and a former Superintendent the church's Sunday school. She enjoyed knitting and crafts, and traveled extensively to many countries and several times across the United States with her husband Harry.
Muriel's funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23rd in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St in Millbury. There will be a calling hour from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service, in the funeral home. Burial will be private in West Millbury Cemetery.
