SCARBOROUGH, ME - Muriel B. (Shaw) Townsend, 95, of Scarborough, ME, formerly of Worcester, MA., passed away peacefully at the Gosnell Hospice Home in Scarborough, ME on September, 22, 2013. She has gone home to be with her Lord.
She was born in Worcester, Ma. She was the daughter of James and Alison (Muir) Shaw.
She was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, the Stella Chapter #3 Order of the Eastern Star, the Daughters of Scotia, and the Higgins Beach Association.
Muriel leaves 4 children: Joyce Morse and her husband Steven of Spencer; Richard Townsend and his wife Charlotte of Millbury; Robert Townsend and his wife Elinor of North Grafton; and Suzanne Champagne and her husband Kevin of Londonderry, NH; 7 grandchildren, Lisa Sparling, David Belvery, Bradford Townsend, Adam Townsend, Scott Townsend, Jennifer Pelletier and Allison Hart; 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 nieces. She was predeceased by her husband, Warren G. Townsend and her grandson, Todd R. Belvery.
Her calling hours will be held Wednesday, September 25th from 4 - 8 PM, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 695 Southbridge St., in Worcester, MA.
The funeral service will be at 10 AM on Thursday, September 26th at the church, followed by burial in Hope Cemetery in Worcester, MA. Mulhane Home for Funerals in Millbury is assisting the family with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Matthew's Memorial Fund in her name, 695 Southbridge St. Worcester, MA 01610, or the Muriel Townsend Memorial Fund, in order to erect a permanent memorial in her name at Higgins Beach.
