Nancy A. (Smith) Johnson, 86, passed away on October 30, 2016 after a period of declining health.
She was born in Whitinsville, daughter of William A. and Grace L. (Wallace) Smith. Upon marrying, she settled and raised her family in Sutton with her husband of 47 years, Albert H. Johnson, who predeceased her in 1999. She leaves behind five daughters, Linnea Blue of Worcester, Amy Parslow of Sutton, Catherine Tessier and her husband David of Uxbridge, Rebecca Smith and her companion Richard Lambert of Millbury and Julie Richard of Sutton; 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, who called her "GiGi" and brought great joy to her.
She graduated from Northbridge High School and then attended floristry school and worked as a florist for many years, eventually running the garden department at The Fair in Worcester. She displayed her talent for arranging and colors in many venues, most recently in her rug braiding. She was a talented baker and cook and worked in the Sutton schools' cafeteria where she was the lead baker after having been sent to Blackstone Valley Tech for training.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Sutton and belonged to the Church Women' Group. She also was a Camp Fire Girls Leader for her daughters, belonged to a couples group with her husband, belonged to the Red Hat Society and the Sutton Senior Center and volunteered as a senior companion.
She will be missed by all that knew her. The family extends their thanks to the staff at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Northbridge, especially those that took an extra moment to make her smile and feel special.
Nancy's funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 4th in the First Congregational Church, 307 Boston Rd. in Sutton. There are no calling hours. Burial will follow the service in Howard Cemetery in Sutton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the First Congregational Church, 307 Boston Road, Sutton, MA 01590.
