MILLBURY – Owen E. Carrignan, 6, died Saturday, May 26th at UMASS Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, after a short illness.
Owen was deeply loved and will be forever missed by his mother, Michelle (Girouard) Carrignan, his father, Shawn E. Carrignan and his step-mother, Deborah McDuffie; Two sisters, Atalia and Anna Carrignan, and four step-siblings, Noah, Ethan, Audra and Lydia McDuffie, all of Millbury; his paternal grandparents, Robert and Helen (Gwozdowski) Carrignan of Millbury; his maternal grandparents, David and Deborah (Tarallo) Dawson of Millbury and Denis Girouard of Worcester; great-grandparents, Raymond and Nancy (Bell) Girouard of Auburn and Doris T. (Faron) Gwozdowski of Millbury; his aunt, Jenelle and her husband Patrick McNally of Sterling; two uncles, Andre Girouard and his partner, Patrick Joslyn of Worcester; his uncle Todd Carrignan and his wife, Kimberly of Millbury; his cousins, Sean, Sandra and Skylar Carrignan, as well as many great-aunts, great-uncles and friends.
Owen was a tough kid with a heart of gold, and he fought this battle with the strength and courage that most adults could not muster.
Owen was a first grade student at Elmwood Street School in Millbury. He had an infectious smile that never left his face. His eyes and heart sparkled with his passion for life and he was so full of love and kindness. Owen loved sports from a very early age and he was a gifted athlete who excelled in every sport he played, including soccer, basketball and baseball. He loved to be outdoors playing with his family and wrestling with his sisters.
Owen was an avid Celtics fan and was thrilled when he got to watch his favorite player Kevin Garnett up close at the Garden. He would spend hours on end playing in the yard with his Dad, often from morning until night. He looked forward to camping in the White Mountains with his family again this Summer, which was an annual event. He loved to ride his bike, and enjoyed tubing and fishing on the river. When not at play, Owen liked to relax with some good television, including The Simpsons and Bob Burger.
Owen's Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, May 31st at 11 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 Main St. in Millbury. The family respectfully requests that all attending the Mass go directly to the church on the day of the funeral. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 30th in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury, and burial will be in Central Cemetery in Millbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Owen E. Carrignan Sports Scholarship Fund, care of the Millbury Federal Credit Union, 50 Main St. Millbury, MA 01527.
