Paul F. Hope, 86, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 1st in Southbridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

Paul was born in Worcester the son of William J. and Mary Frances (Shea) Hope. He leaves his wife, Phyllis J. (Pagliaro) Hope; four sons, Paul, Michael, Kevin and Allen; two sisters, Patricia Leblanc and Lorraine Annesty; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  Paul is predeceased by a brother, William Hope and a sister, Mary Morin.

Paul was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War.  He received two Purple Hearts for wounds suffered and the Combat Infantry badge.  Paul worked as a letter carrier for the city of Worcester for 30 years.  He also golfed and bowled for many years in the post office league.

Paul was a life member of the Charles F. Minney VFW Post of Millbury and was twice past commander of the post.  He was also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4, the VFW National Home in Eaton Rapids, Michigan and the American Legion Post 109 in Sturbridge.  Paul graduated from St. John’s High School in 1950 and Worcester Junior College in 1958.  He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, former member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, former member of the Postal Workers Golf League and former treasurer of the Charlton Democratic Committee.  He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed going to the games with his sons to see the Red Sox and Patriots play.  Paul loved the ocean, especially R.I. and Nahant, where he spent many summers with his family.

Paul was a good man with a kind heart.  He loved his family and will be missed by them.  The family would also like to thank the staff of Southbridge Rehab and Healthcare Center.

Paul’s calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 3rd from 10 to 11 a.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury.  His committal service and burial with military honors will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
