In 1980, she moved to West Sutton, where she and her husband restored the 1817 Bastow-Phelps House. In addition to her ntiques business, Mrs. Shaw loved knitting and cross-stitch, and could often be found sitting by the pot-bellied stove in her store, working on a crossword puzzle, with her beloved greyhound seated nearby. She enjoyed baking and cooking, and keeping up her English and Yankee family traditions at the holidays. She was an avid
reader, and particularly enjoyed American fiction, short stories,
biographies, and the poetry of Robert Frost.
Last September, Mrs. Shaw and her brother watched the Sutton 300 parade from the porch of her store in Sutton Center.
