MILLBURY - Peter Paul Chunis, 87, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2021, at home with his loving family by his side.
Pete was the son of Joseph and Vincenta (Aiducavich) Chunis of Millbury and graduating from Millbury High School in 1952, where he played football and was a member of the high school band. After graduation, he attended college at Worcester Jr and Berkley School of Music. He worked at Crompton and Knowles as well as performing music as the band leader of the Blue Bells Polka Band, where he played all over the country. Pete loved polkas, when he wasn’t playing, you would see him cutting a rug on the dance floor. On one such occasion is where he met his future wife Frances Lulu, they wed November 27, 1958, going on to have 3 children: Peter, Thomas and Donna. Pete was the proprietor of Mr C’s, where he held polka dances every weekend for several years. So many polka fans made it the place to be each weekend. Pete was also an active member of the Lithuanian Club and Maronis Park for many years.
He was an avid sports fan rooting for the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. However, his passion was being with his 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife going on cruises, polka weekends, Alaska, Europe and other destinations including celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary in Hawaii.
Pete was a force of nature, he was kind, gentle and very giving. He wouldn’t think twice in lending a hand even when not asked. He adored his wife and was most proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was always there supporting them, encouraging them, and being their rock.
Anyone who knew Pete knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. Pete was predeceased by his father Joseph, mother Vincenta and brothers; John, Joseph and Vitte. He is survived by his wife Fran, sons: Peter (wife Krysia), Tommy (wife Michelle) and daughter Donna Dombrowski (Rich), his 10 grandchildren: Peter, Tatiana, Joshua, Emily, Nicholas, Zachary, Kaitalyn, Lili, Jarek and Mikaella and 4 great grandchildren Adelyn, Thomas, Kristen and McKenzie.
The family would like to especially thank Angela Finne for her exceptional loving care and tireless dedication she showed our dad over the past few years.
Family and friends will honor and remember Pete’s life with a time of visitation on Wednesday, August 4th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury.
