SUTTON – Philip "Phil" T. Breen, 83, a beloved father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend, died peacefully at home early Thursday morning. Family and friends surrounded him for the last weeks of his life. Even in his last days, he was an example of faith, love, and humor to all who knew him.

His loving wife, Rosemary "Romy" (O'Malley) passed in 1997 and now they are reunited in heaven. He leaves behind two daughters, Alanna Mary Breen of Columbia, SC; and Erin Susan Armstrong and her husband Jonathan, of Pocatello, ID; a son, PJ Breen and his wife, Karla and their two daughters, Rachal Ollie and Marybeth Frances of Worcester; his sister- and brother-in-law Catherine (O'Malley) and F. Michael Novick of Worcester, as well as three nieces, two nephews, and six grandnieces.

He was born in Worcester, graduated from Classical High School in 1950, and received a Bachelor of Arts from Holy Cross College in 1954. He served in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsmen for two years before receiving his J.D. from Boston College Law School in 1960. After several years in private practice with his father, he became the Assistant Clerk of the Superior Courts of Worcester, a position he held until he retired in May of 2001. He also worked as a tax preparer and an enrolled agent, a job that he loved. He enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening, bird watching, and sharing meals with family and friends. He was an active member of St. Mark's Catholic Church of Sutton for 39 years, and a proud member of Holy Cross College's Sodality group. He belonged to the Southern MA Police Association.

His funeral will be held Monday, Aug. 17th from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury, with a Funeral Mass at 10:30 am at St. Mark's Church, 356 Boston Road, in Sutton. Calling hours are 1 to 4 pm Sunday Aug. 16th in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Worcester. In appreciation for the support of their parish, the family requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mark's Haiti Ministry, 356 Boston Road, Sutton, MA 01590.
