SUTTON- Ragnar W. "Bill" Gustafson Jr., 76, of Sutton, died Sunday, Feb. 10th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Memorial Campus in Worcester.
He leaves two sons, Bruce E. and his wife Karen Gustafson of Millbury and Ragnar W. Gustafson III and his wife Penny of Millbury; a daughter, Deborah, wife of David Maturi of Whitinsville; three sisters, Lois Adams of Florida, Ruth Flynn of Shrewsbury and Shirley Chase of Florida; 8 grandchildren; nephews and nieces.
He was former President of Gustafson Plumbers Inc. in Worcester retiring in 2001. He held various positions at the Millbury Saving Bank for 30 years and is a Trustee at the present time. He is a member of the Auburn Sportsmen's Club and is a member of the Matthew Whittal Masonic Lodge in Shrewsbury. He was past president of the Mass. English Springer Spaniel Assoc., which trained field trial dogs primarily.
He was a member of the Eastern Competitive Trail Ride Assoc, for 20 years and competed in many competitive rides ranging from 25 miles to 100 miles, throughout New England. He was a life member of the National Rifle Assoc. and was an avid archer that competed in various local tournaments. He was a Navy veteran during the Korean War. Bill volunteered many hours at Waters Farm in Sutton.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, February 18th in the First Congregational Church, on the Common in Sutton. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery in Sutton. Calling hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, February 17th in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Waters Farm Preservation Inc., 4 Uxbridge Rd., Sutton, MA 01590.
