Raymond R. Hanson, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital after a short illness.
Raymond is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty years, Shirley A. (Fitzgerald) Hanson; three sons, Donald R. Hanson and his wife, Donna of Charlton, David R. Hanson and his wife, Sallie of Sutton and Douglas T. Hanson of Millbury; his sister, Karen E. Hanson and her husband, Paul Dickson of Florida; his cherished six grandchildren and six great grandchildren, with a seventh on the way; a sister-in-law, Elaine R. Padeni and her husband, Nelson "Butch" of Worcester; a brother-in-law, Robert E. Fitzgerald of Gardner; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Raymond was born in Worcester, son of the late Ragnor Hans and Eleanor (Taylor) Hanson. He was a member of the Millbury Federated Church and graduated from Millbury Memorial High School in 1952. He proudly served in the United States Army, 101st Airborne Division and member of the 508 Airborne Chapter from 1954 to 1956.
Raymond worked for the former Svea Baking Company as a retail distributor, the former Archway Cookies Wholesale Distributor for 20 years and Lab Corp, Inc for 11 years, retiring in 2007. Raymond was a member and past president of the former Millbury Kiwanis Club, a 55 year member of the Olive Branch Lodge in Millbury, a member of the Dudley-Gendron American Legion Post in Sutton and a member of the Millbury Historical Society.
Raymond enjoyed immensely his coaching of Millbury Little League Baseball for 13 years, then following his sons and grandsons through their sports of baseball and basketball, never missing a game. His greatest pleasure was seeing his great grandchildren who gave him so much joy.
Ray and Shirley enjoyed many cruises and a lot of traveling with their friends through the years. Everyone who knew Ray will truly miss him as he was a great people person.
Ray's calling hours will be held on Friday, March 17th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 18th at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in Central Cemetery, Millbury.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a Lung, Heart or Diabetes Foundation of the donor's choice.
