MILLBURY - Raymond J. Smith, 69, of 22 Marion Ave., died Thursday, Dec. 13, in his home after an illness.
His wife of 29 years, Florence M. (Markey) Smith died in 1987. He leaves three sons, Steven J. Smith of Worcester, Scott J. Smith of Webster and Michael J. Smith of Millbury, with whom he lived; two daughters, Susan J. Elie of Worcester and Amy B. Lussier of Millbury; six grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by a brother, Wayne Smith and a sister, Elaine Lavner. He was born in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, son of John and Viola (Robinson) Smith and has lived in Millbury for 44 years. He graduated from the former Worcester Boys Trade High School in Worcester, in 1951.
Mr. Smith was a pattern maker at S. Ralph Cross & Sons in Worcester for many years, retiring in 1989. He was a Army veteran of the Korean War, serving in Korean as a demolitions expert. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3657 in Worcester and a member of the Pattern Makers League of North America.
A private graveside service will be held in St. BrigidTM)s Cemetery, at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, Ma. 01701 or to the Massachusetts Veterans Inc., 69 Grove St., Worcester, Mass. 01605.
