MILLBURY Richard J. Dwinell, 86, of 6 Gould St., died Saturday, Feb. 14th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Memorial Campus, Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Susan E. (Willis) Dwinell; four children, Suzanne M. Dwinell, James M. Dwinell, both of Millbury, John D. and his wife Debra Dwinell of Hudson and Richard J. Dwinell of Fitzwilliam, N.H.; a brother, Robert B. Dwinell, two sisters, Bernice M. Gaudere and Barbara M. OTM)Brien all of Millbury; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Two sisters, Hazel Weldon and Martha Bekier and two brothers, Earl Dwinell and Harold Dwinell, predeceased him. He was born in Millbury, son of Charles and Sadie (Army) Dwinell and has lived in Millbury all his life.
Mr. Dwinell was a former State Representative of the 7th Worcester District for 18 years. During this time he was the Committee Chairman of Natural Resources and Agriculture. He then served as the research director for the Committee of Natural Resources and Agriculture. He was a lineman and safety person for New England Power Company and Mass Electric for 30 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Fidelity Bank in Millbury. He was a former selectman in Millbury for 18 years, a former Millbury Town Constable and was a member of the Millbury Fire Department for 35 years and he also served as the fire alarm superintendent for the town. He was a member of the Millbury Housing Authority, the Charles F. Minney Post Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Devoe-Taylor American Legion Post #9, the Democratic Town Committee, a life member of the Singletary Rod and Gun Club, a lector at St. BrigidTM)s Church. Mr. Dwinell was honored as the Millbury Old Timer at the Millbury Old Timers Banquet last year. He was an Army veteran during WW II serving in France, Belgium, England and Germany.
His funeral will be held, Tuesday, Feb. 17th from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., with a Mass a 11 a.m. in St. BrigidTM)s Church, 59 Main St. Burial will be in Central Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16th at the funeral home.
