MILLBURY Richard N. Kenary, 85, of 6 Budreau Ave., died Tuesday, Jan. 6th in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after being stricken ill at his home.
He leaves his wife, Bernice R. (Daley) Kenary; two daughters, Maura P. Barbato of Sutton and Janet M. Dumas of Millbury; two sons, John W. Kenary and Richard N. Kenary Jr. both of Millbury; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was born in Worcester, son of John E. and Agnes N. (Leary) Kenary and has lived in Millbury all his life. He graduated from Millbury High School, then received his Bachelors Degree at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester and then received his master Degree at Boston College, in Boston.
Mr. Kenary was an Executive Vice President of the Millbury Credit Union, until his retirement in 1993 and was one of the organizers of the Credit Union when it started in 1934. He became manager of the Millbury Credit Union in 1961 and was a member of the board of directors from 1947 to the present. He was also a biology and math teacher at Millbury High School for 22 years, until he retired from teaching in 1961. He was a Lt. Commander in the U. S. Navy, assigned to the Navy Department in Washington D.C., during WW II.
He was a member of St. BrigidTM)s Church. He was a director of the Massachusetts Share Insurance Corp. from 1962 to 1972 and was a director of the Credit Union League of Massachusetts from 1977 to 1989. He was a former director of the Millbury Housing Authority, a former Millbury Library Trustee and was a member of the Millbury Historical Society.
His funeral will be held Friday, Jan. 9th from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. BrigidTM)s Church, 59 Main St. Burial will be in St. BrigidTM)s Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan 8th in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Millbury Historical Society, P.O. Box 367, Millbury, Ma. 01527.
