MILLBURY – Richard F. Plante, 62, died Sunday, August 7, 2011 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 39 years, Deborah S. (Brady) Plante; a daughter, Michelle Remuck and her husband, Michael; a son, Richard "JR" Plante; a brother, E. Bernard Plante and his wife Lynne, all of Millbury; four grandchildren, Kyleigh Plante, Dillon Remuck, Jayce Plante and Adam Remuck; nephews, nieces and cousins. He was born in Worcester, son of Edward A. and Mary "Mae" E. (Carney) Plante.
Richie owned and operated Plante Burial Vault Company for many years and was an Army veteran during the Vietnam War, serving in Germany. He was a cemetery commissioner in Millbury for 29 years. He was a former Millbury Fire Fighter for 20 years, going through the ranks of Lieutenant, in charge of the rescue squad, Assistant Chief and retired as Fire Chief in 2002. Richie was a life member, captain of the color guard and past commander of the Charles F. Minney VFW Post 3329 and a member of the Devoe-Taylor American Legion Post #9. He was a brother of the Nam Knight Motorcycle Club. Richie enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at Hampton Beach and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles.
Richie's funeral will be held Thursday, Aug. 11th from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 Main St in Millbury. Burial will be in Central Cemetery in Millbury. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10th in the funeral home.
