Robert Burns

MILLBURY – Robert S. Burns, 89, died Monday, March 23rd in St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester.

He leaves nieces and nephews, among which is his great niece and caregiver, Robyn Savoie of Sutton. He was born in Millbury and is predeceased by his parents, John F. and Mabel L. (Rivers) Burns, two brothers, Norman C.A. Burns and Chester Burns and two sisters, Lucille G. Burns and Florence Beauchamp.

Mr. Burns owned and operated his own plumbing company before he retired many years ago. He was a WW II Army Veteran serving in the European Africian Middle Eastern Theater, with the 4th Armored Division. He was a lifelong member of St. Brigid Parish and a former recording secretary and a member of its St. Vincent DePaul Society since 1957. He received the Top Hat Award for 50 years of service with the St. Vincent DePaul Society in 2007. He was also a past president and member of the former Men's Club at the church and president of the former retreat league of the Passionist Fathers at the church and a former collector with the Bishop's fund.

His funeral will be held Thursday, March 26th from the Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury, with a Mass at Noon in St. Brigid Church, 59 Main St., Millbury. Burial will be in St. Brigid Cemetery, Millbury. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 25th in the funeral home.
