Robert J. Courtney, 71, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16th in his home after a courageous four and half year battle with lung cancer.
Bob leaves his wife of 51 years, Nancy J. (Stewart) Courtney; four children, Cheryl Nedoroscik and her husband, John of Worcester, James Courtney of Auburn, Thomas Courtney and his wife, Vicki of Millbury and Christina Deschene and her fiancé, John Nicholson of Millbury; thirteen grandchildren, Samantha, Anastasia, Stephen, Justin, Derek, Chelsea, Shannon, Kayla, Ashley, Paul, Andrew, Connor and Mackenzie; a brother, Jimmy Courtney and his wife, Sharon of SC; three sisters, Janet Courtney of CA, Ellen Langhill and her husband, Steve of SC and Joanne Gillet of SC; many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Doris (Trevathan) Courtney and a granddaughter, Sabrina.
Bob began Bob Courtney Auctions in the early 1980's and became known throughout the world for his keen eye for high end antiques. His auctions were like a party visited by many who became our friends, laughing as Bob would say "it's going for NO MONEY!". He was an avid Texas Hold'em Tournament Player, having recently won the Senior World Poker Tour Tournament at Foxwoods in November. A special thanks to Regina from VNA Care Hospice.
Bob's calling hours will be held on Saturday, Feb. 20th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main Street in Millbury.
His funeral service will be held immediately following the calling hours at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Care Hospice, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608.
