Robert "Bob" Felton, 85, died Thursday, December 11th in Life Care Center of Auburn after a long illness.
Bob leaves his wife of 40 years, Nancy (Lachapelle) Felton; a son, Jason Felton of Holden; three daughters, Cheryl Bonin and her husband, Bill of Sutton, Darlene Belisle of Sutton and Paige Brown of Holden; two granddaughters, Alexandra Bonin and Teagan Hoey-Brown; two sisters, Barbara Braman and her husband, Ralph of Cape Cod and Ann Allen of RI; and several nephews and nieces.
Bob served 22 years with the United States Military, initially serving in the U.S. Army following World War II and then joining the U.S Air Force. During his time in the military, Bob travelled extensively both outside of the US, in Germany, Libya, and Africa, and within the US, in Arizona and Mississippi.
Bob worked for many years as a computer technician with the TRW Company and later was self-employed as a piano tuner. Music was one of Bob's greatest joys in life and he was an accomplished pianist. Even when well into his 80's, he and his son Jason took violin lessons, something they both had wanted to learn for many years. Bob loved all sorts of music, but especially classical and "boogie woogie". His children and grandchildren frequently asked for him to play them a "boogie woogie" tune and he would always oblige.
Bob met Nancy at a dance at the VFW in Upton, MA and soon after they married. Bob and Nancy spent many times enjoying the ocean and beaches of New England together in the early years and in later years, included the kids in the weekly "Sunday Drives" to various locations, always a surprise where they would end up.
Bob was also an excellent chef and he regularly hosted large family breakfasts that included many of his favorites like French toast, scrambled eggs, and lots of bacon.
Services for Bob will be held at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main Street in Millbury on Monday, December 22nd with calling hours from 10 a.m. to Noon and a short service to follow at Noon in the funeral home.
The family will be hosting a gathering following the service at the family home in Sutton. All are invited to share in some food, music, and memories in honor of Bob.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests folks make a donation to their local school's music department given that music was such an important part of Bob's life.
